Spot the mistake in this demo at the end of one of our Swindon classes? Mistakes happen, but the main thing is to keep dancing and enjoying the music! They can also bring joy and laughter to the dance, so they are a unique therapy of their own.
Important things to remember when making mistakes:
As a lead:
- Don't try to force the move to happen
- Don't try to force the move to happen in the 'correct' number of beats
- Let you and your partner recover, and catch up with the music when you can
- Use more points of connection to guide your partner the right way, rather than more force
- Don't use it as a teaching moment, unless your partner asks about it!
As a follower:
- Do your steps (1, 2, 3, tap and so on) and listen for the 1 in case you have to reset
- Finish your turns, waves, and rolls, don't try to change and fix things
- ... generally anything you feel led into, keep going for 4 beats and finish the move
This way you can both have more fun and less stress on the dance floor!
